The Strength of Holding Your Peace
By Kateb Nuri-Alim Shunnar
People will test you. Life will shake you. There will always be someone trying to pull you into the mud whether through their words, their actions, or the negativity they carry like a storm cloud overhead. But here’s the truth: you can’t control them.
You can’t change how people move in this world, what they say, or the bitterness they hold in their hearts. The only thing you have power over is you how you respond, how you stand, and whether you let them drag you into a fight that isn’t worth your energy.
Self-control isn’t about silence or weakness. It’s about choosing not to let the world dictate your peace. It’s about knowing when to walk away, when to hold your tongue, and when to let the Creator do the talking for you. Because when you belong to the Almighty, the battles people try to start with you? They’re not really against you they’re picking a fight with something far greater.
I’ve had moments where I wanted to clap back, to give people the same energy they gave me. I’ve been lied about, dismissed, mistreated. I’ve watched people try to twist my truth, hoping I’d lose my cool, so they could say, See? He’s no different. But every time I was about to react, something in my spirit whispered, Don’t. Let them think what they want.
Stay in the Creator’s refuge. And I did. And you know what happened? Every single time, the ones who tried to bring me down had to watch me rise because the Creator will lift you higher while they’re waiting for you to fall.
There are people out here who thrive on chaos. They’ll poke at you, throw stones, try to unravel your spirit, not because they have power over you, but because they want to see if they can. Some people are just vessels for negativity, carrying whispers of doubt, fear, and destruction, hoping you’ll take the bait. But here’s where you take control you don’t bite. You don’t let them dictate your emotions. You keep your spirit high while they expect you to sink.
I say this to you, and I say it to myself: Seek refuge in the Creator from the noise, the negativity, and the ones sent to distract you. You don’t have to fight battles that aren’t meant for you. You don’t have to prove yourself to people who are committed to misunderstanding you.
And you sure don’t have to trade your peace for their misery. Because the moment you let anger, revenge, or pettiness take over, you step out of alignment with the Creator’s favor. And that’s exactly what they want.
Let them talk. Let them assume. Let them throw stones.
Your job isn’t to match their energy it’s to rise above it. You don’t need to defend yourself when you walk with the Almighty because the Creator has already handled what you can’t see. And when He moves? There’s not a soul alive that can stop it.
So, guard your heart.
Be mindful of the company you keep some people smile in your face but pray for your downfall behind closed doors. Keep your spirit anchored, your faith strong, and your energy untouchable. Because the ones who try to shake you will have no choice but to watch you stand.
I refuse to be pulled into battles that aren’t mine. I refuse to let the world define me when the Creator has already spoken my purpose into existence. And I refuse to let small minded people make me forget that my destiny is too big to be derailed by their pettiness.
So, I stand firm. I trust the path the Almighty has laid before me. And I won’t be moved.
