The Real Friends of the Spirit Realm

The Real Friends of the Spirit Realm

Episode Title:  Confidants, Constituents & Comrades… Oh My!

by Kateb Nuri-Alim Shunnar

[Opening scene: Fade in from a gold shimmer. Soft harp music plays, then abruptly cuts into high-drama gospel remix.]

Narrator (smooth, mysterious voice):

In a world where blessings are camouflaged, destiny is delayed by dead weight, and fake friends pray over your downfall (literally and spiritually), one thing is clear not everyone sitting at your table was sent by the Creator. Welcome to The Real Friends of the Spirit Realm, where faith meets fire... and everyone’s true colors show under divine light.

[Scene 1: “Spiritual Brunch Breakdown”   A lavish garden party, crystal glasses clinking. Sisters and brothers in faith wear white linen and too much perfume. Lavender-scented fans wave as mimosas spill.]

Tamika:

I just don’t understand how you can call yourself my friend and not be happy when the Creator blesses me with something. I told LaShae I got the job, and she blinked at me like I said I had COVID.

LaShae:

Girl, please. I was blinkin’ 'cause your lashes was fallin' off. Let’s not act brand new.

[Cue dramatic choir chord  Whyyyyyyyy Jesus!"]

Narrator:

Here’s the spiritual tea, saints and seekers a person is likely to follow the faith of their friends, so the circle you’re in is either your spiritual ladder… or your downfall in designer shoes.

[Scene 2: “Friendship Forensics”  Cut to a sleek confessional booth. Background is a halo of candlelight.]

Tamika (speaking into the camera, lashes perfect now):

Listen. I need friends who feed my soul, not just feed me shade. I’m trying to remember the Creator and prepare for Ahiret, not get dragged into a brunch brawl over who posted who’s sermon clip first. Some of these friends got WiFi but no spiritual connection.

[Scene 3: “The Three F’s”  The Host enters the villa in a flowing gold robe. Bells chime as they walk. Everyone hushes like angels just entered the group chat.]

Host:

Today, beloveds, we examine the difference between your Confidants, Constituents, and Comrades. Because some of y’all keep calling everyone “bestie,” when the only thing they’re best at… is betraying you.

Confidants: The Real MVPs of Destiny

Host (to camera):

Confidants are rare. These are the souls who love you unconditionally, not transactionally. Whether you’re in the pulpit or the pit, they ride with you. Not ride or die… they ride AND pray. When you cry, they weep. When you shine, they don’t need sunglasses. They rejoice in your light.

[Cut to flashback montage: Tamika in tears after losing her job. Her friend Darlene shows up with soup, scriptures, and silence. Just presence.]

Narrator:

Darlene is a confidant. She’s the type to lay across the hospital bed and really pray, not just post about it. She's the Jonathan to Tamika’s David. A sacred sister in arms. Not an accessory. A necessity.

Tamika (confessional):

With Darlene, I don’t have to filter my faith or edit my pain. She doesn’t just quote the Creator  she reflects the Creator.

Constituents: The Fair-Weather Followers

Host:

Then you’ve got your

Constituents. They’re not into YOU. They’re into what you’re for. As long as your agenda matches theirs, they’ll repost your memes and sit on your panel. But don’t get it twisted they’re here for the cause, not the calling.

[Scene: Flashback of Tamika starting her women’s empowerment group. LaShae joins, sings loud, shouts “Yesss!” in every prayer circle... until another influencer offers her a better spot.]

Narrator:

One week she was hosting vision board night… the next, she ghosted like a bad Tinder date in the wilderness of temptation.

Tamika (rolling her eyes):

She ain’t block me, but she archived me. That’s even worse. That’s silent betrayal.

Host:

Don’t confuse those who walk with you for those who walk for you. When they find someone who can boost their brand more than you can, they’ll leave faster than Jonah from the whale.

Comrades: The Temporary Allies

Host:

And lastly... your Comrades. These aren’t your soul tribe. They’re your battlefield buddies. They’re not for you. They’re not even for what you’re for. They’re just against what you’re against. And for now, that’s enough.

[Scene: Keisha and Tamika team up to “take down” a local spiritual scammer, Sister June, who’s been charging for fake prophecy readings.]

Keisha (laughing):

I don’t even like Tamika like that, but June had to be stopped. Period.

Narrator:

That’s a comrade. She’s the scaffolding. She serves a purpose. But once the mission’s done? Poof. She gone.

Host:

And don’t mourn the scaffolding, darling. The building still stands. Let it go.

[Scene 4: “Dream Killers & Destiny Thieves”  Dramatic candlelit dinner. Rain outside. Thunder rumbles as truth pours like communion wine.]

Tamika:

I shared my dream with the wrong friend. I told her what the Creator whispered in my spirit and she laughed. Not even a polite chuckle a whole cackle. I should’ve known then.

Host:

Beloved, don’t share your divine dream with someone who can’t clap when you win. If they flinch when you’re favored, run. They’re not your friend. They’re a reminder.

[Cue gospel track: “I need somebody to pray who actually likes me!”]

Final Reflection: Who's Really For You?

Narrator:

So many of us confuse noise for loyalty, attendance for alignment, and likes for love. But the Creator knows your heart... and theirs.

Host:

Stop expecting spiritual support from folks who are spiritually bankrupt. Just because they say “Amen” doesn’t mean they’re aligned. And just because they’re in your selfies doesn’t mean they’re in your story.

Tamika (confessional):

From now on, if you can’t pray for me with sincerity, don’t pray for me at all. I don’t need side-eye saints. I need soldiers in the spirit.

[Closing Scene: The friends sit around a fire. Each writes down a name on a paper and tosses it into the flames  a symbolic release. Some names are let go. Some are embraced. Darlene and Tamika hug with tears.]

Narrator (voice soft, but steady):

If you’ve got one person in your life who celebrates your calling, weeps when you weep, and rejoices when you rejoice... you are a rich soul. You are not alone.

Next Week on "The Real Friends of the Spirit Realm":

A betrayal unfolds at the “Prophets & Pastries” brunch, someone confesses a hidden jealousy, and a surprise guest shows up with receipts from the Book of Life.
