Illumination Through Connection: The Wick and the Oil

Illumination Through Connection: The Wick and the Oil

Written by Kateb Nuri-Alim Shunnar

Sometimes, life can feel like you’re just going through the motions like a wick, full of potential but waiting for something to ignite it. By itself, a wick doesn’t give much light. Without the right fuel, it just smolders, giving off dark, useless smoke. That’s a lot like us when we try to make it through life without being connected to something bigger than ourselves. We might get by for a while, but it doesn’t take long before we start to feel burned out, wondering where all the energy went.

That fuel we need? It’s our connection to the Creator. Without that, we can’t fully shine. It’s like the oil that soaks into the wick it’s what makes the fire possible. That oil isn’t just something we put in lamps; it’s a symbol of divine love, grace, and purpose. When we’re truly connected, when we let that spiritual oil saturate our lives, we become more than just people trying to get through the day. We light up the world around us.

Imagine the hands of the universe pouring that oil into your life, giving you the strength, love, and clarity you need to keep going. When you’re full of that oil when you’re connected to the Creator you don’t just survive. You thrive. You bring warmth and light to those around you, and suddenly, the dark corners of your life start to feel a lot less heavy. You become a beacon for others who are lost in the shadows, showing them that it’s possible to shine again.

But, let’s be honest this kind of connection doesn’t just happen on its own. You have to work at it. Just like a wick needs to be dipped in oil, we need to make an effort to nurture our relationship with the Creator. It’s so easy to get distracted by the busyness of life. We get pulled in every direction by responsibilities, worries, and the temptation of instant gratification. And before we know it, we’re running on empty, burning out quickly without giving off any real light.

That’s why it’s important to keep going back to the source. Whether through prayer, meditation, or just taking a quiet moment to reflect, we need to refill. These moments are where we get the oil we need to keep shining. They remind us of who we are and why we’re here. They fill us with love and guidance that help us to remember our worth and the unique light we have to offer.

And here’s the cool thing when we share our light with others, it doesn’t deplete our own flame. In fact, it does the opposite. Helping others, offering kindness, being there for someone in need it all comes back to us. It’s like the universe gives us even more oil to keep going. It’s a cycle: the more we give, the more we receive. We’re all connected, and when we light up the lives of others, we’re also fueling our own flame.

I know life can feel dark sometimes, and it’s easy to focus on the shadows. But if we really look, we’ll start to see that the world is full of little lights small acts of kindness, moments of love, and quiet gestures of compassion. These are what brighten our world. And as we stay connected to the Creator, we’ll notice these lights more and more. Even the tiniest spark can spread and bring hope where there was none before.

At the end of the day, though, a wick can’t do anything unless it surrenders to the oil. It has to let itself be soaked, trusting that the oil will allow it to shine. We’re the same. We have to let go of our fears, our doubts, and all the things that keep us disconnected. When we let the Creator’s love fill us up, we’re able to live out our purpose and light the way for others.

So, as you go through life, don’t forget to keep soaking yourself in that divine oil. Stay connected to the Creator, and let your light shine not just for yourself, but for the people around you, too. The world needs your light, and when you’re full of that divine connection, you can make a bigger difference than you might think.
