The Symphony of My Being

By Kateb Nuri-Alim Shunnar

I am a cello, sculpted from ancient wood and shaped by the hands of many. My essence vibrates with each subtle tug of my strings and the breeze that passes by. If my existence were a musical composition, it would be akin to Symphony No. 32 in G major, with its intricate and graceful structure.

When the Creator draws His bow across me, His influence is profound, guiding me to produce deeply expressive sounds. This guidance molds my tone, reflecting the trials and triumphs of my journey. The music flowing from me resembles a river, embracing the full range of my experiences. As a writer, I harness similar inspiration, turning my thoughts into words that carry depth and significance.

Each note I play tells a story, much like an artist’s stroke creates a vivid picture. The vibrations of my strings are akin to a carefully crafted work of art, weaving a continuous narrative of my experiences. Similarly, writing involves threading together words to form a powerful expression of personal truths. Both playing the cello and writing require harmonizing individual elements with the overall composition.

As the Creator conducts, He unveils the beauty within me, drawing forth melodies that reflect His divine will. This divine guidance parallels my writing process, where each sentence is shaped to reveal both personal and universal truths. Crafting these insights through writing is much like producing a harmonious note—both require a deep connection to a higher purpose.

There are times when my notes may sound uneven, much like early drafts of my writing. At other times, they flow seamlessly, similar to refined prose. Each musical performance, like each writing endeavor, teaches me more about my journey and the larger story I am part of.

In my relationship with the Creator, I find a sacred rhythm. I am not just an instrument; I am a channel for a divine melody and a writer of narratives that capture the essence of human experience. My role as both a musician and a writer is rooted in seeking truth and beauty. Even when the music pauses or the writing slows, my essence continues to resonate, leaving an impact in the silent spaces of the universe.

As the final notes fade and the last sentence is penned, I am left with a deep sense of fulfillment. I am both the instrument and the music, the writer and the words, finding harmony in the quiet moments and continuing to resonate throughout the universe.

Strings hum with purpose,

Guided by the hand of Love,

My song knows no end.

Footnote: In my novel Sally Ann: The Roots Beneath the Tree , the character Sally Ann plays the cello, symbolizing her search for inner peace and spiritual expression. The cello, with its rich and resonant tones, represents a profound means of expressing and releasing deep emotions, mirroring Sally Ann’s journey towards finding calm and connection in her life.
