Don’t Let Yesterday Define Today

By Kateb Nuri-Alim Shunnar

Yesterday’s weight is dust on the ground,

It fades away when The Creator is found.

The chains of the past cannot make you stay,

For His hand has written a brighter day.

The storms you faced, the nights you cried,

Were only the waves where faith was tried.

The trials that struck, the burdens you bore,

Have shaped your soul for something more.

The past may whisper, “You are bound,”

But in His mercy, life is found.

The Creator’s breath makes shadows cease,

And turns your sorrow into peace.

Do not let yesterday steal your song,

Its echoes fade, they don’t belong.

Each sunrise speaks with holy light,

Declaring freedom, pure and bright.

Your stumbles fall, your guilt is gone,

For in His love, you still belong.

No yesterday can curse or sway,

The mercy given you today.

The mountain high, the valley deep,

The broken promises you keep,

They do not rule, they cannot stay,

The Creator wipes them all away.

For every dawn His mercies sing,

Like morning dew on eagle’s wing.

The sun declares, “Begin anew,

The Creator’s light will carry you.”

Yesterday’s tears are lessons grown,

Seeds of wisdom, not your throne.

Do not bow to what has passed,

For He has made your freedom last.

The rivers flow, the oceans rise,

Yet still His hope will paint the skies.

The storms may rage, the winds may sway,

But love will guide your steps today.

The world may bind you with regret,

But His great promise hasn’t left.

The future’s bright, the past decays,

The Creator charts your present ways.

So lift your head, release the chain,

There’s healing here through every pain.

The night is gone, behold the ray,

Don’t let yesterday define today.

Your life is more than what has been,

For He has cleansed your soul within.

A canvas fresh, a page brand new,

The Creator paints His love on you.
