Deeper Than the Roots
by Kateb Nuri-Alim Shunnar
My faith runs deeper than the roots of a Sequoia tree,
Past the crust of doubt and the soil of uncertainty.
It drinks from the rivers where angels bathe,
And rests in the chambers where prophets prayed.
Winds may howl and thunder may cry,
But my spirit will not bend, nor my hope run dry.
I’ve stood in the ashes, walked through the flame,
Yet I whisper His name, and I’m whole again.
Mountains may crumble, oceans may roar,
But I’ve found a quiet place beyond fear’s door.
It’s not built of stone or fashioned of clay,
But molded in mercy and shaped by grace.
Storms have tried to pull me low,
Yet faith held firm in the underflow.
Not surface deep, not skin nor bone
It anchors my soul in the Unknown.
I've seen the dark where no light should be,
But faith lit a lamp inside of me.
A fire not born from earthly spark,
But from the Creator who called me from the dark.
My grandmother prayed with trembling hands,
Her words still echo through life's shifting sands.
And my mother stood like a sacred flame,
Teaching love, not fear, in the Father's name.
I was small, but my roots were sown
In gardens my elders had always known.
Now I stand tall, though quiet I seem
Rooted in purpose, watered by dreams.
So come what may let the world shake free,
My faith still runs like eternity.
Deeper than the roots of the tallest tree,
Because the Divine has planted me.
