Closer Than Breath

Closer Than Breath

by Kateb Nuri-Alim Shunnar

Like whispers between two souls

Slip into my dreams,

whenever your heart aches for me.

Your breath lingers on my skin,

a soft sigh I carry everywhere.

If you ever feel lost,

if your hands reach for something in the dark,

don’t you dare doubt my love

I am already holding you, even when you can’t see me.

When sleep pulls you under,

I’ll be the warmth at your back,

the hush at your ear,

the quiet ache between your ribs.

If you only knew...

how fiercely, how completely,

you are loved by me.

So when the night grows too long,

when silence feels too sharp,

let your heart remember

I’m here, closer than your own breath.

And I’m not going anywhere.
