A Psalm of Peaceful Parting
By Kateb Nuri-Alim Shunnar
O Lord, You are my refuge when the tongues of others rise against me.
If they insult me, I shall not answer in wrath.
If they defame me, I shall not lift my hand in vengeance.
For You, O God, are my vindicator, my shield, and my judge.
I shall walk the path of peace, as You have commanded,
And I shall forgive, as You have so freely forgiven me.
To those who wrong me, I say:
May the mercy of the Most High overshadow you,
May His grace find you in your rising and your rest.
If we must part, let it not be in bitterness or spite,
For I shall not carry hatred like a stone in my soul.
Let love be the final word, and peace the last breath between us.
Even as rivers depart from one another,
They find their way to reunion in the vastness of the sea.
So shall we pond and stream, brook and lake Flow together once more in the ocean of divine peace.
With every breath I draw, I send forth peace.
With every beat of my heart, I echo forgiveness.
Let peace be upon you now and always.
Let peace be the legacy we leave in our parting.
