Choosing Unity Over Division
By Kateb Nuri-Alim Shunnar
They don’t want to see us come together. Those forces, often hidden in plain sight, benefit when we’re divided, when our families break apart, and when our communities drift. They wish to see single mothers carrying too much alone, children wandering through life without the guidance they deserve, and men drifting away from the Creator’s path. They thrive on conflict and disharmony, hoping that husbands and wives will stay at odds, that we’ll look at one another with distrust rather than compassion. They seek a world of people turned inward, isolated from each other, with no shared heartbeat of unity.
In a world where we’re bombarded with differences, it’s a quiet rebellion to choose unity. Imagine if we could look beyond what divides us to focus on what draws us together. Picture a husband and wife who, instead of adding up each other’s faults, choose forgiveness and peace. Imagine men and women, side by side, building each other up rather than competing or tearing each other down. Think of the power that could come from every person on Earth despite race, age, creed, or background resolving to live with a spirit of understanding and peace.
These forces work silently to convince us that unity is unnatural. They want us to hold onto grudges, let anger fester, and build walls instead of bridges. But every time we reach across these barriers with love, every time we choose connection over separation, we defy their plans. Choosing unity is not an ideal but a powerful, living reality one that reflects the Creator’s original vision for us. It is how we find our fullest selves, as we learn to see beyond the labels, beyond the layers of pride and fear, and glimpse the shared spirit within each of us.
We can’t deny that some differences and challenges feel insurmountable, and yet, the Creator’s design has never been about perfection it’s about connection. Every act of kindness, each gesture of understanding, is a reminder that we are bound by something deeper than our differences.
Imagine the beauty of what unity could bring. Picture the strength of communities bound not by obligation but by a shared will to see each other thrive. Husband and wife, make peace; man and woman, make peace; people of the earth, make peace. We are meant to be like a river flowing together, unencumbered, nourishing all in our path. Division, by contrast, is like a dam: it blocks that natural flow, creating tension, resentment, and bitterness. Yet when love and understanding guide us, we align with the Creator’s vision and become part of a force that heals and restores.
Unity is a legacy, a sacred call passed down from the Creator to us all. We are called to lift one another up, to cherish the unique beauty within each soul, knowing that each person carries a spark of the divine. Each act of unity whether a moment of reconciliation, a gesture of compassion, or a simple act of kindness becomes a prayer, a living reminder that our strength lies in togetherness.
So, let’s live as caretakers of this unity. Let’s heal what’s broken, strengthen the bonds that connect us, and choose to live with hearts open to one another and the Creator. May we be vessels of peace, casting light where there was division, building relationships that endure, and embracing the Creator’s path of love. Let us strive, every day, to be part of the vision where husband and wife make peace, man and woman make peace, and people of the earth live together, united and whole.
